What our clients have to say

Shortly after purchasing a waterfront site, with the hope of building a new home, my husband Jack and I interviewed several architects including Scott Allen.  When the interview was over, Jack and I immediately hoped that Scott would agree to be our architect.  Thanks to Scott, the entire process of designing the house was very exciting and a complete pleasure.  If you are thinking about building or remodeling, the absolute single most important decision you make is the architect.  It all starts with the design.  Scott listened to our ideas, walked the site (which is a narrow deep waterfront lot with numerous building restrictions), and met with the county building department before proposing any ideas to us.  We wanted the home to look conventional on the side facing the street so that it would fit into an older neighborhood while we wanted more of a Charleston look from the water side.  We had many requirements for the interior including an in-law suite, library space, numerous sleeping spaces to accommodate frequent overnight guests, lots of windows for water views, and by working through the design phases with Scott, we didn't have to change a thing during construction.  Scott listened to our ideas, worked with our budget, came up with many suggestions and options for implementation, cautioned us when appropriate and designed a house that we just love and meets all our needs.

I know we’ve said this before, but just to be clear: it’s a beautiful home, with a smart, warm design. I am regularly cognizant of the thought that it was not just the result of a professional transaction and work-for-hire, but instead of a smart, thoughtful artist who injected herself into the process of creating something personal and meaningful. Those many conversations and personal touch brought this new addition up from a pile of lumber and bricks and turned inert materials into a place to live. Shooting pictures of the rooms today made me take stock of those thoughts again, and made me smile appreciatively. I would be remiss in sending the images if I didn’t also share those sentiments with you.

We are very happy with our home.  Your ideas have created a beautiful and very comfortable house that conforms with our desire for simplicity.  It takes full advantage of the waterview.  Everyone who visits remarks on the design.  Thank you for your skill and professionalism.  As you know, we have already recommended you to others and will continue to do so.

I have worked with Scott Allen through several projects over the last few years: traditional townhomes, detached single family homes and urban infill rowhomes and live / work units.  I have been pleased with both the process and the results of those projects and would gladly recommend him to others.

Since 1998, Scott Allen has designed numerous homes for us and we are extremely pleased with the results.  In addition to creating aesthetically pleasing floor plans, from a structural perspective, his designs are extremely sound which is very important to a custom homebuilder.

I recommend him highly for any design project, from renovations to custom homes.
